Alzheimer’s is a brain disorder that severely affects one’s memory, thinking, learning, organizing, reasoning, and analyzing skills; and the ability to carry out simple daily activities It’s the most common cause of dementia. An Alzheimer’s disease is a physical disease that progressively affects the brain. It’s a progressive disease in the sense that, it gradually affects and damages more part of the brain, over time.
As the condition gets worse, the patients face difficulties with-
  • Caring for themselves
  • Recognizing their friends and family
  • Carrying on a conversation or finding the right words
  • Remembering recent information, events, places, and time 
  • Performing simple daily tasks and activities like reading, writing, walking, swallowing, etc.
  • Falling asleep
According to Ayurveda, Alzheimer’s disease is termed “smruthi nasha”. As Alzheimer’s disease is a problem of old age where “Vata Dosha” is much aggravated. It is said that Smritibhramsha can develop due to the consumption of unwholesome diet (dominant in Tamas & Rajas) and irregular physical activities which causes vitiation of Dosha affects the mind and body both and leads to Smritibhramsha. Dhatukshaya and Margavarodha are the cardinal aetiologies for the vitiation of Vata Dosha.
What causes AD:
The cause of Alzheimer's disease is poorly understood. About 70% of the risk is believed to be genetic with many genes usually involved. Other risk factors include a history of Head injuries, Depression and Hypertension.
 
 
Ayurvedic Treatment for Alzheimer’s disease:
  • Complete Nourishment: The two variants of treatment in Ayurveda are; Apatarpana( aimed to reduce), and Santarpana( to nourish). The Santarpana treatment is being done in Alzheimer’s by using appropriate herbs.
  • Removal of Causes: such as dryness, roughness, instability and high mobility in body or mind are the main causes for Vata aggravation.
  • Healthy Diet and Lifestyle: What we eat thus reflects directly on our body. thus the need to properly manage diet and lifestyle is important.

Durva is a sacred grass and has a special significance when
it comes to Lord Ganesha. The word ‘durva’ is derived
from the words ‘duhu’ and ‘avam’. ‘Duhu’ means, that
which is far away and ‘avam’ means that which brings
closer. Thus, in a way, we can say that the Durva grass
brings the Ganesha devotees closer to him. It is especially
an important offering when you perform Ganesh puja. The
Durva grass consists of three blades which represent the
three principles of primal Shiva, primal Shakti and primal
Ganesha. Durva is said to have the highest ability to attract
the Ganesha principle which explains why it is an
important offering made to Lord Ganesha.
Durva grass is a traditional herb used in the preparation of
Ayurvedic medicines since time immemorial.
Durva is a perennial creeping grass which grows in any type
of soil. The spreading nature of the grass could be the reason
for Durva to be known as the Devil’s grass.
Durva in Sanskrit means “which is cut or eaten by animals”.
Durva grass is a storehouse of healthy nutrients like proteins,
calcium, potassium, fibre, phosphorous, carotene, sitosterol.

Enhances immune function -Durva grass contains protein
fractions which enhance the immune modulator activity that
helps in optimizing the immune system.

Cures skin problems-A paste of the Durva grass mixed with
turmeric and applied on the affected area is a remedy for a
host of skin related disorders.
Improves digestion-To treat acidity, one should take juice of
Cynodon dactylon (3-4 tsp) and water (1 glass) empty
stomach in the morning. This mix is quite effective not only
for acidity but also beneficial for stomach ulcer, colitis, and
stomach infections.
Controls blood sugar levels- Doob grass juice along
with neem leaf juice is good in normalizing blood sugar
level. 
Relieves stress -Consumption of Durva grass juice regularly
relieves stress and strengthens the nervous system.
Epitaxis -Cynodon dactylon is effective in stopping of
nose bleeding . For this, one has to put 2 drops of doob grass
juice on the bleeding nostril.

With the increasingly busy lifestyle, stress, lack of sleep, and unhealthy eating habits, migraine is becoming a growing concern even in young adults. Ayurveda, the world’s oldest system of medicine, provides holistic healing in the severest cases of Migraine by offering root-cause based personalized treatment and medicines.
Migraines are defined as a neurological condition that gives rise to headaches which can be mild, moderate or severe in intensity. It occurs due to abnormal brain activity affecting nerve signals, chemicals and blood vessels in the brain . It is often accompanied by nausea, vomiting, numbness, tingling, sensitivity to light and sound. Migraine attacks can last from 4-72 hours and the pain can be severe. Migraine is known as Suryavartha soola in Ayurveda, where Surya means Sun and avartha means arise of affliction, thus the aggravation of pain with light and heat. However, the type of migraine headache may be different according to a person’s individual constitution.

Physical Factors like low blood sugar, wrong posture, sleep deprivation, exhaustion, over exposure to intense lights, sounds, or smells, severe weather changes, frequent travelling .Emotional Factors Like  Stress, excitement, depression, inability to handle emotions, overwhelm and anxiety .Dietary factors Like  skipping meals, alcohol and caffeine consumption,  soy products and artificial sweeteners are responsible create imbalance in the body.Hormonal causes Like  Menstrual cycles,  menopause, birth control pills and hormone replacement therapy that cause the hormonal levels to fluctuate can spark migraines.
Ayurvedic approach to treat migraine headaches
The goal of Ayurvedic treatment for migraine is to pacify the vitiated doshas and restore the digestive function of your body with a combination of therapies and treatment that enhance the ojas (vitality), relaxes the mind and strengthens the nervous system.
Role of Panchakarma therapies in treating migraine
Panchakarma therapies cleanse the body of toxic materials (ama), purifies the tissues at a very deep level, eliminates the harmful ama and balances the doshas.Special treatments like Sirodhara, Shiroabhyanga, Sirovasti etc. helps to nourish the nerve system and thereby the action of Vata is normalised.

AYURVEDIC THERAPEUTIC ENEMAS/ VASTI

In Panchakarma treatment, five procedures are undertaken for eliminating the vitalized doshas from the body. The five procedures form the basic types of Vasti.Vasti has a great healing capability and is considered to be the half treatment for many diseases. The treatment is primarily used for flushing out loosened doshas from the body via the intestinal tract.Ayurvedic therapeutic enema is advised as the prime and the most important treatment to balance vata (the air factor) and to address all the three doshas (humors)Doshas.
 
It is rendered in two ways: The first is by channelizing warm medicated oils or decoctions on the affected areas of the body through a concentrated channel made from herbal pastes or leather;
the second is through medicated enema. It is a highly effective treatment that helps treat multiple Dosha disorders, degenerative disorders, neurological ailments, rheumatic complaints etc.
How are Ayurvedic therapeutic enemas performed?

Before administration of the Ayurvedic therapeutic enema, body is prepared by massaging with herbalized oils and then applying steam. After that when you are lying down, herbal formulations are introduced using an enema bag by an expert. Once the administration is finished, abdomen, lower back, hands and feet are massaged vigorously to improve absorption. The herbs can remain in the bowel for a few minutes to many hours (according to the type of the formulation) before it is eliminated.

 
Types of Ayurvedic therapeutic enema:
According to the herbal formulations used and dose, enemas are classified mainly into 2.
Oil Enema (Snehavasti):
In Sneha Vasti, only medicated oils or ghrithams are used unlike in other vastis, where a combination of various ingredients with predominant decoctions are used. Oil enema helps to lubricate the colon, softens hard facal matter and stimulates bowel movements. Oil enema is the ideal treatment for vata imbalance. Generally oil enema is advised after food, Usually multiple sessions of oil enemas are advised for specific illnesses and long lasting results.
 
 Herbal Enema (Kashaya vasti):
A combination of decoction, honey, oil, salt and other herbal medicines are used for this enema. It is the main treatment for all Vata disorders. There are thousands of formulations for herbal enema to address different imbalances and illnesses.  It helps in pacifying the Vata Dosha and restores its equilibrium. It also helps to some extent in maintaining the balance between all the three Doshas namely Vata, Pitta & Kapha; thereby maintaining a state of health.By selecting appropriate herbs and formulations, herbal enemas can be used to correct any imbalance and disease (provided the imbalance is reversible and the individual is not contraindicated for herbal enema eg. pregnancy, children, elderly, physically too weak, etc). An Ayurvedic guide to balanced sleep

Ayurveda factors in three pillars of health, Ahara (Nutrition), Vihar (Balanced lifestyle), and Nidra (Sleep). It’s no wonder that sleep and nutrition are accorded equal importance!  According to the root text, Charaka Samhita, ‘happiness, nourishment, strength, virility, knowledge, and life itself depend on proper sleep’.
Sleep according to Ayurveda:
“Yada Tu Manasi Klante Karmaatmanah Klamaanvitaha |
Vishayebhyo Nivartante Tadaa Swapati Maanavaha”
(Cha Su 21/ 35)
According to the Ayurvedic clock, it’s best to wake up before sunrise and sleep before 10 p.m., when the kapha period has induced dullness in the body. It’s also important to have a gap of at least 2 hours between dinner and sleep time. An ideal time for dinner is 7 p.m. If you’re eating a late dinner, aim for something light and eat 2 hours before you go to sleep.
Sleep can be physiological, induced by Tamas (lethargy), Kapha, mental or physical exertion, illnesses and stress, improper nutrition, lifestyle, and environmental factors can cause,
  • Excessive sleep; normally Kapha imbalance
  • Insomnia, disruptions in quantity or quality of sleep – normally Vata or Pitta imbalance (esp. Vata).  
A good night’s sleep confers immense merits for well-being, such as Sukha (happiness), Pushti (nourishment), Bala (strength), Vrishata, Gyaan (knowledge), Jeevita (life). Whereas very less sleep induces Dukha (unhappiness), Karshyata (emaciation), Abala (weakness), Agyana (impaired wisdom).
Insomnia is a very profound sleeping disorder, generally followed by day time sleepiness, low energy, lethargy, fatigue, irritability. The cases of insomnia are ever growing. Factors like stress, lifestyle habits and dietary choices have a severe impact on sleep and gradually develop into insomnia.
Ayurvedic remedies for a good night’s sleep
*Regular practice of yoga along with pranayama, or deep breathing exercise, in the morning also helps in improved sleep.
Here's how Ayurveda could help for a better sleep
*Some common Ayurvedic herbs for improved sleep quality include:

*The juice extracts from sugarcane regulates mood, memory and sleep, hence ensuring uninterrupted rest at night.
*Milk is a great sleep supporter. You can also add some crushed almonds(badaam), a pinch of nutmeg(jaathi kaai), and  a pinch of cardamom, for a flavourful and healthy potion right before you tuck into your bed. 
*Add one teaspoon of Brahmi and Ashwagandha powder in two glasses of water. Boil them and then reduce it to one glass and drink it daily at least once for best results.
* Have one teaspoon of licorice root powder(adi madhura podi) with a glass of cold milk every morning on an empty stomach, for instant and best results

According to Ayurveda, the hair is a by-product of the bone tissue, as are the nails and teeth, making all of these tissues intimately connected. The hair is also linked to the nervous system and the gut, so if the health of any of these tissues deteriorates, the hair is likely to be affected.
What does Ayurveda say about hair?
According to Ayurveda, your hair type and health is determined by the dominant dosha in your body.
  • People with Vata constitution have thin, straight hair with a relatively high tendency to absorb and retain moisture. Excessive Vata dosha leads to dry, frizzy hair.
  • People with a Pitta constitution tend to have wavy hair with a medium thickness. Excessive Pitta dosha leads to hair fall and scalp inflammation.
  • People with Kapha constitution generally have curly, lustrous and thick hair. Excessive Kapha dosha results in oil scalp, dandruff and hair loss.
The Vata haircare regimen
It is recommended that you oil hair two-three times a week with almond oil, castor oil, olive oil or sesame oil infused with hair strengthening herbs like bhringraj, liquorice, shatavari, ashwagandha, etc . Vata-Pacifying Herbs like Palandu (onion), Gunja (Rosepea), Yashtimadhu (Licorice), Devdar (Cedar), Krishna Tila (black sesame), Saireyaka (Barleria Prionitis), Ashwagandha (Withania Somnifera) , Shatavari (Asparagus Racemosus), etc. can be used

Head oiling / Shiro Abhyanga forms part of the larger Dinacharya of Abhyanga, which includes body and head oil application – this offers tremendous health benefits
Eat RightA balanced nutritional diet is one of the predominant factors which keep your doshas in balance, and thus, your hair in good health. Besides choosing your foods based on your Prakriti, make sure your foods include essential nutrients for hair growth like Vitamins A, B, C, D, E and K, and minerals such as iron, zinc, etc. along with protein.
Wash Your Hair Regularly
It is recommended that you wash your hair twice a week and oil them afterward. Washing the hair more than that may strip the scalp of its natural oils and discourage proper hair growth. 
Use  Hair Masks regularly
Hair masks can help moisturize and nourish your hair. They're especially beneficial for dry, damaged, or frizzy hair. Some hair masks may even improve the health of your scalp and boost the strength of your hair.
You can use Ayurvedic herbal powders like Amalaki, henna, fenugreek and solvents like egg white, aloe vera gel, etc. to prepare your nutrients rich hair masks. Apply the mask from your roots to hair tips and leave it for about 30-40 minutes before rinsing it off with water.
Avoid Heat Styling

Golden goodness of ghee  
Ghee or clarified butter, was said to be the food of the Gods In our ancient scriptures. 
Since time immemorial, it has been an integral part of a sattvic bhojan (sound eating regimen) 
to annihilate side-effects of sicknesses from the body. 

Benefit of using ghee
Ghee increases intelligence. It refines the buddhi or intellect and improves the smrti or memory. 
Ghee also builds the aura, making all the organs soft. Basically, it increases rasa - the internal juices of the body.

Ghee stimulates the secretion of acids in the stomach that help break down food. 
It also helps remove toxins and promotes elimination, thus improving digestive quality. So it Rekindles the digestive fire

Ghee increases the intestinal walls for  better  absorption  of nutrients .
It is ideal for conditions such as leaky gut syndrome, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), 
Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. Being a source of fatty acid it  helps in reducing the risk of colon cancer.

Ghee nourishes and lubricates tissues in the body. It reduces dry skin, dry colon, inflammation and stiff joints. 

Ghee increases your memory and intellect. It is beneficial for mental and emotional imbalances.

Ghee  along with Triphala and honey, is used to improve eye health.

Ghee is a well-known catalyst (anupana) and has the unique ability to drive the healing properties 
of the medicinal herbs deep into the seven body tissues (sapta dhatus). 
This increases the effectiveness and healing potency of the herbs dispensed.

Helps to reduce stress, anxiety, risk of cancer, diabetes, and improves immunity

It is also anti-inflammatory in nature

It alleviates Vata, Pitta, poison, insanity, inauspiciousness and fever. 
It is the best of all fats, is cold, madhura rasa, madhura vipaka, has 1000 potentialities and so, if used properly 
according to prescribed methods, exerts 1000 types of action⁠”- Charaka Samhita
The Sushruta Samhita, an Ayurvedic classic, claims ghee is beneficial for the whole body, 
and recommends it as the ultimate remedy for problems stemming from the pitta dosha, such as inflammation.
Ghee is taken with food for all who desire nourishment.  Adding ghee to the daily diet of women, 
especially those who are pregnant. It is said to fortify the bones and the immune system.
In Panchakarma and Ayurvedic cleansing, we use ghee to because It penetrates into and helps dissolve
toxins in the tissues of the body. These wastes are then eliminated via the gut. 
In Ayurveda, ghee is also believed to enhance ojas, or “life energy.”
“For centuries, ghee has been considered a rasayana, 
---which means a healing food that balances both body and mind,” 
Ghee’s benefits extend to topical use as well. 
Ghee also contains known vitamin E and beta carotene, which are known antioxidants.

The human heart is a marvel of nature that is sensitive to physical and emotional wellness. The Vedic sciences of Ayurveda, Yoga, and Tantra all view the heart as a critically important energetic hub in the body, where a diverse range of physical and energetic pathways intersect.
In recent times, a significant rise has also been observed among young adults. In fact, heart disease is currently the leading cause of death among both men and women , so the heart is certainly an organ deserving of our attention and care.
High consumption of cholesterol, leading a sedentary life, stress, anxiety and smoking are some of the common causes which leads to the deposition of toxins  in the arteries. Untreated heart diseases may need surgery to prevent severe health complications.
How Ayurveda Sees the Heart
The heart is an important seat (primary location) of vata, pitta, kapha, and ojas (the subtle essence of vitality and immunity), and it plays a crucial role in a number of internal bodily channels (srotamsi). The heart is also deeply integrated with the subtle body, which permeates and informs the physical body, extends beyond the physical form, and is more energetic in nature.
Causes of Heart attack Even 2000 years ago in ancient India, fat was observed to be linked to heart disease. Today, atherosclerosis is one of the most common conditions that lead to heart disease. High serum levels of LDL-cholesterol is widely recognized as a precursor of atherosclerosis
  • In addition to atherosclerosis, high blood pressure typically stresses the cardiovascular system and may accelerate the development of heart disease.
Some risk factors of heart attack are as follows:
  • Increasing age , Sedentary  and Stressful lifestyle,Diabetes,Overweight

Cinnamon:cinnamon can reduce high blood sugar levels and improve insulin sensitivity — both factors associated with elevated risk of heart disease.

The Ayurvedic eye treatment takes a holistic approach to improve eyesight. Primarily, the eye is one of the most vital organs of the human body. Our vision plays a crucial role in our social and intellectual development.Nearly 80% of the knowledge we gain is through our eyes only.
Netra anjana is one of the special treatment done in eye disorder. Anjana is procedure of applying medicine in the form of Gutika, Raskriya or Churna to the inner side of lower lid either by fingertip or by an applicator.
MODE OF APPLICATION OF KAJAL
It should be applied from the inner canthus to the outer canthus and vice-versa on the inner part of the eye lid or on the palpebral conjunctiva by using an Anjana Shalaka or physician’s finger either in the morning time or in the evening, Kajal application is not recommended during midday  when the eyes are fatigued by strong rays of sun .
After applying kajal , the eye balls should be  moved up and rotated slowly, the eyelids should also be moved slight by massaging over it,by these acts the kajal spreads to all places .
INDICATIONS:
Refractive errors,Watery eyes,Dry eyes, Itching, Eye strain, Oedema of eye
CONTRAINDICATIONS
Those who have  fatigue, Udavarta, excessive lacrimation, alcoholic, anger, fear, fever , suppression of natural urges and disorders of head . Also it should not be applied during the period of less sleep, in windy days , on exposure to dust and smoke , in the presence of eye discharge and Adhimantha-defective vision with pain , just after the Nasya, Vamana and Virechana ,after a head bath, during indigestion
METHOD  OF PREPARATION OF AYURVEDIC KAJAL
Preparation of homemade kajal begins with dipping a clean, white, thin muslin cloth, about ten by ten centimetres square, in sandalwood paste or the juice of Alstonia scholaris (Manjal karisilanganni), which is then dried in the shade. This dip and dry process is done all day long. After sunset, a wick is made out of the cloth, which is then used to light a mud lamp filled with castor oil. A brass vessel is kept over the lamp, leaving a little gap, just enough for the oxygen to aid the burning of the lamp. This is left burning overnight. In the morning, one or two drops of pure ghee or castor oil are added to the soot which now lines the brass vessel. It is then stored in a clean dry box.
